In a world where things like Facebook are eager to force you to share the games you play with your friends, I am cautious about composing something like this for fear it sounds like an auto-generated advert. However, GeoGuessr is sufficiently cool as a concept and sufficiently fun as a game that I wanted to share it in case you hadn't heard about it yet.
GeoGuessr is game created out of Google's Street View where it drops you into the street view at 5 unknown places around the world and you have to look around for clues as to where it is.
You make your guess by clicking on the map (you can zoom and move the map to make your guess more accurate), clicking the Make Guess button and then GeoGuessr tells you how close you were and awards points accordingly. Then GeoGuessr drops you into the next of the 5 spots.
At the end it gives you a total score and generates links to either simply share that score or to challenge others to play the same places as you did and compare scores.
I've only allowed myself to play the game once so far and I was very fortunate with locations, guesses and finding exact locations in a couple places where travelling virtually down the road gave me phone numbers to Google. I got 23,819 points although I understand 12-15,000 is more typical for good scores.
The range of scores you get will depend on the way you choose to play. You can just look around the spot you're dropped into and make your best guess, you can move Street View along until you get clues as to where you might be (street signs, advertising signs, landmarks, etc.) or you can make those steps 1 and 2 and, for the 3rd step, start Googling the clues that come up to help pin down the location as precisely as possible.
My results are here and you can play the same game I played here.
